Merit Health Rankin Opens Wound Care Center
2/11/2022
You have heard the popular saying, “Time heals all wounds,” but in many cases that is not always true. Some wounds can take weeks to heal and many will not heal completely without some type of medical intervention.
Merit Health Rankin’s new wound care center, located in Brandon, provides patients with slow healing wounds a new treatment option close to home. The wound care center offers services to heal problem wounds through a program designed and equipped to deliver advanced techniques in wound care. Brian Hamilton, M.D., and Heather Hammons, PA-C, CSWS, along with nurses, technical and office staff work as a team to deliver complete care using treatments and advances in wound therapy.
A wound is considered chronic if it has not healed significantly in four weeks or completely in eight weeks. There are several reasons why a wound may not be healing, including infection which can halt the healing process, poor circulation, poor nutrition, diabetes and excessive swelling caused by fluid accumulating in the skin.
“Having a wound care center located in Brandon adds yet another much needed healthcare service to our local community,” says Heather Sistrunk, MHSA, BSN, R.N., chief executive officer at Merit Health Rankin.
A physician’s referral is not required to schedule an appointment at the wound care center. Appointments can be made by calling (601) 824-8733.
